The trainer prepares the horse. The jockey rides it. Together, they have an enormous influence on the outcome. Analysing their statistics — especially at specific courses — can reveal edges that pure form analysis misses.
Trainer Statistics
Overall Strike Rate
A trainer's strike rate is the percentage of runners that win. The top UK flat trainers operate at 15-25%, while smaller yards may run at 5-10%. But the overall figure is just the starting point.
Course Strike Rate
This is where the real value lies. Some trainers have dramatically higher strike rates at certain courses:
- A trainer might run at 12% overall but 28% at a specific track they specialise in.
- Proximity matters — trainers based near a course often know it intimately and target it with their best horses.
- Some trainers have a notably better record at left-handed or right-handed tracks.
Our model checks every trainer's record at today's venue. A trainer with a strong course strike rate boosts the horse's score significantly.
Trainer Form
Recent trainer form (winners from last 14 days) tells you about the stable's current well-being. A trainer sending out multiple winners is said to be "in form" — their horses are likely fit and well.
Jockey Statistics
Jockey Course Record
Like trainers, jockeys often excel at specific courses. A jockey who rides a track regularly understands where to position, when to kick, and how to manage the bends. Course experience is particularly valuable at tricky tracks like Chester, Epsom or Beverley.
Jockey Bookings as a Signal
Watch for jockey switches — when a leading jockey drops a previous mount to ride a different horse in the same race, it often means connections are confident. Similarly, a top jockey being booked for a lesser-known trainer's horse is a signal worth noting.
Trainer-Jockey Combinations
Certain trainer-jockey partnerships are significantly more successful than their individual stats would suggest. They understand each other's methods, and the jockey knows how the trainer's horses are prepared. Our system tracks these combinations to identify when a proven partnership is reunited.
